That's a great tip Danny, I hadn't really considered company newsletters or email subscriptions - I'll add RSS feed from the company website as well, though ideally your site is setup to do that automatically anyhow.

Simon - right on as well ... the newswires claim effectiveness, but I think their biggest value is injecting it into the search engines super fast - things like Google / Yahoo news etc. Though blogs are quickly being able to take that advantage away as well.

A good targeted email list really can't be beat - except by individually pitching each reporter individually :)

These are excellent tips - so many people go the fire and forget route, as you mention, that they miss out on other hugely effective avenues.

I also use my company newsletter - I have a section in there for archived/latest press releases. I also offer email subscription to my press releases so that whenever I publish one it's immediately sent out to interested parties.

Marketwire was able to create a customized researched list of specific editors and reporters for us to target. It allowed us to make sure we wern't wasting editors time and bringing topical content to them instead of the old "spray and pray" technique......coupled with Marketwire's distribution to mainstream and trade media the campaigned worked out fantasticly!
