Part 2: Business Blogging Success Stories
Part 3: Getting Started with a Business Blog
There has been a lot of talk about whether or not a business can really truly benefit from blogging. The public has been especially critical about whether a “small business” can benefit from creating a business blog, so I have talked with several business owners around the country to see if there really truely are benefits to creating a business blog for businesses that aren’t just consultants, entertainers, and authors.
From what we learned from the following examples, blogging can absolutely help your business grow. The best part about these examples is that it is something EVERYONE can do. You just need to be confident that you are an expert (and if you aren’t then why did you start your business in the first place!) and you also need the ability to write on a regular basis, or have an employee or spouse do it for you.
Small Business Blogging Success Stories:
Comfort Dental, Anderson Indiana:
Comfort Dental began blogging in August of 2007 and in January of 2008 had quantifiable evidence that their blog generated business when they had a customer tell them that they had found the company via their blog. http://yousleepwework.compendiumblog.com/blog/sedation-dentistry In addition, their blog ranked in the top 10 results for the search terms they were optimizing for, so it is likely that this was not the first customer to learn about the dental practice from their efforts.
Crossfit, Santa Cruz, California:
The small mom and pop fitness training company had (according to the owners) seen roughly 0% growth for the first 25 years of business. In 2001, the team started blogging. Their blog now reaches 2.5 million people and their business is experiencing about a 350% annual growth rate and their fitness concept and business model has spread to more than 500 locations around the world! http://www.crossfit.com
Butler Sheetmetal, Colne, Lancaster (UK):
The company began blogging about various projects they were working on and has since experienced a 400% increase in their business. They primarily use the blog to drive community involvement and communicate with their clients.
Consultants, Celebrities, Performers, and Authors:
I am not including a specific example here because there are literally thousands of examples of how blogging can benefit consultants, celebrities, performers, and authors. These types of businesses (even more so than other commercial efforts) thrive on building a personal relationship with customers. For some types of businesses, having a blog or not should be a discussion that needs to take place, but for a person who already knows that their business needs to build a personal connection with prospective customers a blog is a necessity, not an option.
